YOU’RE INVITED!   To the Bexar County Nutrition Health Fair on Friday, June 8, 11am-1:30pm. at the Paul Elizondo Tower, Rm 304, 101 W Nueva St. 78205.  Learn how proper nutrition and physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and reduce your risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer). Free healthy samples provided by Texas A&M Agrilife! Recording Your Volunteer Time and CEUs on a timely basis is greatly appreciated!  BCMG must submit monthly totals of our members’ hours to AgriLife.  Please be sure your volunteer work and CEU hours are included!  If you have problems logging into the VMS, or have a question about a code, please contact Lisa Nixon at [email protected].

Planning to visit the 47th Annual Texas Folklife Festival this weekend (June 8-10, Fri-Sun), at the Institute of Texan Cultures, then come by our BCMG Booth located near the Cesar Chavez gate in the Back 40 close to the fort. Bring some young ones for Butterfly Crafts and the opportunity to pot a beautiful Cora Vinca plant.

BCMG Board Meets Thursday, June 21st
The monthly meeting of the BCMG Board of Directors will take place 3-5pm on Thu, Jun 21, at 3355 Cherry Ridge 78230. If you are interested in placing items on the agenda, email President Grace Emery by Thu, Jun 14.  And, all members are welcome to observe the meetings; however, in order to accommodate seating, please email President Grace Emery that you will be attending.

THIS Saturday:  Join David Rodriguez on Sat, Jun 9, from 10-30am to Noon to learn all about Growing Texas Superstars® for Summer Color at Milberger’s Landscaping & Nursery.

Junior Master Gardener Adult Leader Summer Training:   Earn CEUs in training designed for teachers, educators, and volunteers in support of youth gardening during this session which will be held Wed-Fri, Jul 25-27. Educators will learn about “hands-on” group and individual learning experiences that will provide an appreciation for the environment and cultivate the minds of children.  Contact Ruby Zavala at [email protected]

Urban Wildlife Series:  REGISTRATION DEADLINE = JUN 8!
10am – Noon on Thursdays, Jun 14 & Jue 28; Tuesdays, Jul 10 & 31, and Aug 14.
The series includes the Clean River Program, Texas Water & Wildlife, Stormwater Management for Wildlife &Water Quality, Native Plants & Water Conservation, plus a Field Trip (TBD). Cost:  $25 for the series, or $10/class.  Check out the brochure.

June BCMG Education Seminar and Meeting:  Thursday, June 21st, 1-3pm.

Chip Thompson, owner of Happy Earth Garden, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Farm on 11 acres near Rio Medina, will speak about his enterprise and about CSA.  2 CEUs; Code: 003. For more information contact BCMG President: [email protected].

Just Announced: Master Gardener Specialist Training-Vegetables will be held in San Antonio from 4 to 6 September (Tue-Thu). If interested, email David Rodriguez    AND, Texas Superstar Plant Specialist Training will be hosted by Smith County from 18-20 Sep in Tyler. [Note: San Antonio will probably host his course in 2019 or 2020.]

Milberger’s Top Tomato Contest – This Saturday! Bring your finest homegrown tomatoes and/or a bowl filled with your best garden vegetables to Milberger’s Nursery (3920 North Loop 1604, 78247) before noon on Sat, Jun 9.
