ANNOUNCEMENTS

 Meet up at the Schultze House (600 Hemisfair Plaza Way) this Friday, July 14th, at 8:30am for a couple of hours with your gloves, shovels, rakes and picks (for the tougher jobs).

Did You Know?  The Bexar County Master Gardeners FaceBook Public Group has 1495 members!!  That’s a lot of gardening-information sharing going on!   Hoorah!!  Many Thanks to Lisa Nixon, Shawn Bowers, Barbara Linick, Liz Campanella and Lyn Komada for administering and monitoring the Group.

The Texas Bumble Bee will be presented by Dr Jessica Beckham at our July 19th Meeting, from 6 – 8 pm, at 3355 Cherry Ridge, Suite 208, 78230.  Texas is home to about a dozen bumble bee species, including a few whose populations are considered to be declining. Learn about bumble bee natural history, identification of common Texas species, and ways that individuals can help conserve these vital pollinators.

 

Next Board of Directors Meeting will take place 3-5pm on Thu, July 19, at 3355 Cherry Ridge 78230. If you are interested in placing items on the agenda, email President Grace Emery by Fri, Jul 13.  And, all members are welcome to observe the meetings; however, in order to accommodate seating, please email President Grace Emery  that you will be attending.

Junior Master Gardener Adult Leader Summer Training:   Earn CEUs in training designed for teachers, educators, and volunteers in support of youth gardening during this session which will be held Wed-Fri, Jul 25-27. (check out the Agenda!). Educators will learn about “hands-on” group and individual learning experiences that will provide an appreciation for the environment and cultivate the minds of children.  Email Ruby Zavala if you need more information.

Backyard Basics Expo will feature educational sessions on water, pollinator & veggie gardening, salsa gardening & making, backyard chickens, making jerky, cuts of beef, growing fruit trees, and composting! Don’t miss this event on Fri, Aug 3, from 8:30am-12:30pm at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels, 78209. Register online; fee = $20 in advance, or $25 at the door.

Home Gardening Series will be held at 3355 Cherry Ridge, Suite 208 78230, on Wednesdays (dates & topics below), 6:30—8:30pm. Learn how to make your landscape look better and save water, all while having fun! Presented by David Rodriguez, County Extension Agent—Horticulture and BCMG Specialists.

Aug 22: Fall Vegetable Gardening (Focus on Warm Weather Vegetables)

[Note: San Antonio will probably host his course in 2019 or 2020.]
