Volume 32, Issue #5 – May 2022

Nancy Mills,
BCMG Member at Large

Hello to all!  My name is Nancy Mills and at the present time I am serving as one of the Members At Large for the 2022 BCMG Board.  I was part of the 63rd Intern class (2019) and became involved in a variety of volunteer activities. Some of these include the Children’s Vegetable Garden at the San Antonio Botanical Garden (SABOT) and as a Docent for the SABOT’s Culinary Garden. I also volunteered for the 2020 Rodeo as well as the Youth Task Force. I served as the Secretary for the 2021 BCMG Board, and presently volunteer as a Coordinator for the Speaker’s Bureau and the Youth Task force. As you can tell, I really enjoy all the opportunities to work with other Master Gardeners and the community in various ways.

I am a retired educator with 34 years of experience, 17 of those in Elementary school classrooms and 17 as an NEISD Literacy Specialist. During my stint as a Specialist, I gave many presentations on literacy, wrote literacy curriculum, and trained the trainers (teachers) to become presenters as well.

I am also a “retired” military spouse. My husband, Michael, retired from the Dental Corp after 30 years and presently is an associate professor in Periodontics at the UT Health Science Center. We raised three children and lived in Florida, Greece, Virginia and Germany, with most of our time spent right here in San Antonio.  I am the grandmother (Mimi) of 6 wonderful grandchildren.

The Master Gardener program has given me so many opportunities to explore my passion for gardening! It certainly is a great way to spend my retirement!
