BCMG October Monthly Meeting – The Garden Snake (Zoom Mtg.)

October 15 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

October BCMG Seminar and Meeting
October 15, 2020
1:00 – 2:00 PM

Topic:  The Garden Snake

There are many creatures that call our backyards home, but few trigger the imagination that our ophidians do.  This program will go over our most common legless neighbors, their natural history, and their role in our backyard ecosystem.

Speaker:  Gilbert Martinez, Environmental Specialist
Texas Department of Transportation

Gilbert Martinez earned a degree in biology from the University of Texas Pan American (now UTRGV).  As an undergraduate research student, he focused primarily on the ecology of small fossorial snakes, but was also involved in fresh water fish biology.  He started out in the environmental field as a park ranger intern with USFWS at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, then moved to San Antonio where he was an environmental scientist for an oil and gas company.  Gilbert then joined the National Audubon Society as an Education Manager at Trinity River Audubon in Dallas, Tx.  He made his way back to San Antonio to help manage the habitat at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, where he was the Conservation Manager for two and a half years.  Currently, he is an Environmental Specialist with Texas Department of Transportation and is pursuing his MS in Environmental Science at UTSA.

Free and open to the public.
The business portion of the meeting will begin immediately after the speaker concludes his presentation.
