The soils and climate of South Texas provide distinctive and diverse environments for plants in our state. From the coast to the Valley to the brushlands, very different conditions lead to the diversity of the South Texas flora. Many of these species are also at risk due to, primarily, habitat loss and invasive plants such as buffelgrass.
In this workshop, conservation botanist, Michael Eason will discuss some of the families whose members occur in the landscapes of this part of Texas—Cactus, Euphorb, Pineapple, Agave, and Dogbane. Michael will cover the different ecoregions of South Texas and focus on plant characteristics, pollination, seed dispersal, range, and threats. Following his presentation, Michael will lead a walk in the garden to identify some of the plants discussed.
