Topic:  Japanese Gardening… Texas Style!

Learn the basics of creating the tranquility, serenity, and harmony of a Japanese garden in your yard.  Discover the benefits of replacing turf grass with alternative options.  Even novice gardeners can achieve the aesthetics and sensibility of this ancient practice.  Create a pleasing design plan and learn the elements of basic Japanese garden design using low water usage plants adapted to our area.

Speaker:  Stephanie Jones

Stephanie Jones became a Bexar County Master Gardener in 2007 after retiring from 31 years at USAA, where she worked in various management positions.  Since then, the main focus of her energy has been the Botanical Gardens where she works as a garden guide, instructor in many different classes, including the children’s summer camps, and spends two days a week in the propagation greenhouse.  Stephanie takes particular delight in working with the students at Oak Meadow Elementary School every Thursday in their garden and helps teach the JMG curriculum to students.  Stephanie hopes, through her participation in this program, that she is preparing future environmentalists who will work as she does to preserve the beauty and wonder of our planet.

Bexar County Master Gardener (BCMG) Educational Seminars/General Meetings are held on the afternoon of the third Thursday every other month at the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Office, Suite 208.
