Native Bees — NPSOT Guadalupe Co. Chapter Mtg.

March 10, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free.  Native Plant Society of Texas, Guadalupe County Chapter meetings are open to the public and visitors are welcome.  The meeting will start with a social and “Bring a Branch” identification at 6:30pm followed by the program at 7pm.
For more information, directions to St. John’s Lutheran Church, or membership applications, see the Chapter website.

Mark de Kiewiet, a Master Naturalist and Master Beekeeper, has been actively involved in Guadalupe County for the past 8 years with outreach programs and research into bees. He will explore the interdependence of native plants, native and non-native bees and other environmental factors. Mark keeps and studies bees, using them as a vehicle to understand nature’s interdependencies.

With over 3,000 native bees in the USA, 800 in Texas and 23 locally, these wonderful pollinating insects have had a major role in the variety and success of our native plants. Mark will discuss the future of these native “residents” and what we need to do to ensure a brighter future. He will explain to behave around bees for a more pleasant experience, the role the European and local Feral Honey Bees play in our environment, why  they and their products are so important to us.
Mark will be bringing different flavored truly local honeys to taste.
