The Emerald Ash Borer and the Ash Apocalypse – Distance Learning

September 24, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

A computer and internet connection are required for this San Antonio Botanical Garden workshop.

If you live in one of San Antonio’s mid-century neighborhoods, chances are you or your neighbors have some old, huge Arizona Ash trees.  The Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive beetle from Asia, is already in Texas and will ultimately kill almost every ash tree in the state unless steps are taken.  What can you do to help preserve San Antonio’s tree canopy?

Join Texas Forest Service Entomologist, Allen Smith for this distance learning class on the Emerald Ash Borer.  Learn about its biology, ecology, and timetable for arrival in our area.  Most of all, learn about the treatments available for ash trees and the effectiveness and cost of those treatments.  Allen will address what the state and city are doing to address this coming ash apocalypse and how you can strategically prepare and protect your landscape.

Instructor:  Allen Smith, Texas Forest Service Entomologist

Fee:  $10 deposit, refundable upon completion of the post-workshop survey
