Volunteer Opportunities
Construction & Landscaping
Volunteers are needed to help build the displays, plant sale booth, and youth garden areas. Please wear closed toe shoes, comfortable clothes, and gloves. Volunteers will be building, working with power tools, and moving mulch.
During landscaping, volunteers will unload plants from the delivery truck, place plants to decorate the displays, and putting on some final touches to make the displays beautiful.
Tentatively set for: Jan 17 – Feb 8, 8:00 am – Noon

Hospitality
Lunch may be provided during the construction and landscaping days. If so, volunteers will be needed to prepare dishes and provide assistance with this very appreciated endeavor!

BCMG Booth/Area
During Rodeo (Feb 9-26) Master Gardens sell plants, answer questions, and provide youth activities.
Cashiers
Job Description:
- Responsible for card and cash transactions
- Completes shift reconciliation
- Prepares and secures shift envelope
- Sends email verification of shift envelop info
All MGs and Interns who will be serving as a cashier for Rodeo must attend a Cashier Training session in January that will focus on the process used at this year’s Rodeo.
Sign-ups for cashier shifts will be handled through the VMS on the Rodeo: Cashiers Calendar
Interns may only serve as one of the two volunteers for each shift so that they are serving with a certified MG.

Ask-a-MG
Job Description:
- Must be a trained member of the Ask-a-MG Team
- Answers gardening questions
- Promotes sales of Rodeo Tomato
- Keeps plants watered as needed
- Keeps area clean and attractive
Sign-ups for Ask-a-MG shifts will be handled through the VMS on the Rodeo: Ask-a-MG Calendar.
You must be a member of the Ask-a-MG Team to serve on these shifts.
Ask-a-MG Training Date:
Tuesday, Jan 10, 6-8 pm
Zoom session link will be sent Monday, Jan 9
RSVP by close of business, Sunday, Jan 8, to Butch Lee to reserve a training slot

Youth Gardening Buddies
The Youth Gardening Buddies Team will provide activities for youth on Saturdays, Sundays, and President’s Day (Feb 20). In addition, MGs will provide guided tours for school groups.
MGs and Interns interested in serving on these shifts should sign up on the Rodeo: Youth Activities and Rodeo: School Tours calendars on VMS.
Tear-down
Approximately 10-15 volunteers needed each day.
These last few days will be the time to take down exhibits and neatly pack them away, shovel out the mulch, and break down any large displays. Please wear comfortable clothes, gloves, and closed toe shoes.

2023 Rodeo Waiver
Waivers will need to be signed and turned it prior to working at Rodeo. The San Antonio Livestock Expo (S.A.L.E.) will be sending us the waivers in mid-January. When we have them we will post a copy to download here so you can sign it and return it to the office. Check back here for updates.
Parking and Transportation
Parking and transportation is new this year!
Cashiers, Ask-a-MG volunteers, and Youth Gardening Buddies will park in the Rodeo Employee lot at
Wheatley Heights Sports Complex
200 Noblewood Dr, San Antonio, TX 78220
Volunteers will catch the employee shuttle which will drop volunteers at the Via bus stop on E. Houston St. in front of the Coliseum. Volunteers walk across the parking lot and enter gate which will be next to the BCMG Booth.
Plan to arrive at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex 1 hour prior to your shift.

Volunteer Rodeo Passes
Volunteers will be given a one-day pass to use the day of their shift.
Details about the distribution of the passes is still being worked out.
