Volume 32, Issue #3 – March 2022

BCMG Vice President

Welcome to Spring…We keep hoping that the weather will be fine enough for us to finish clearing out the leaves and cutting back the frozen plants, to be ready for new growth to emerge. I’m Judy Warren, the current BCMG Vice President. If you are like me, you can’t wait for this cold weather to end! There are so many tasks that await us in our yards and gardens.
The San Antonio Water System is collaborating with Bexar County AgriLife Extension and the Bexar County Master Gardeners to bring you information you need to be a successful gardener in Bexar County, all while conserving water. CULTIVATE! will be available via Zoom on Friday, March 18 from 9 am-2:30 pm and Saturday March 19 from 9 am – 1 pm. Sessions range from “How to Find Plants that Thrive,” to “Planting for Pollinators,” to “Basics of Landscape Care,” to four other sessions. Register online here to participate: https://bexarmg.org/cultivate-sessions/. I’m looking forward to participating myself.
As a Master Gardener and San Antonio resident for only a few years, I have found so much pleasure in my garden – planting varieties that thrive with less water and also attract bees and butterflies. I look forward to sharing another passion – engaging children and youth in school gardens – “Growing Good Kids,” in a future Scion.
Judy Warren, Vice President, Bexar County Master Gardener Association

If you attended last month’s presentation “Finding Research Based Information” by Skip Richter, you know that he promised a list of his resources. Here is a link to those resources he mentioned: References for Gardening Information Online

Bexar County Master Gardeners continues its participation in the Champions fore Charity fundraiser and the effort to match a $1000 challenge donation. We are half way there!!! We currently have received $500 towards our goal!! We ask for your support to help us meet that challenge AND receive an additional 7% match from the Valero Texas Open.
Did you know that you may be able to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to BCMG? Consult your tax or financial advisor for more information on this strategy that may even lower your taxable income.
We appreciate your consideration. Your donations are welcome through April 11th. The link to make donations is on our website at www.bexarmg.org/donate.
