Scholarship in Horticultural Studies

Bexar County Master Gardeners, a non-profit, trained volunteer organization, is a component of Texas AgriLife Extension Service promoting volunteer horticultural education and service to the community. As part of our mission, Bexar County Master Gardeners (BCMG) offers one $2,000 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year. The scholarship is funded through plant sales in cooperation with the Bexar County Horticulture Agent and gifts from Master Gardeners, friends, and associates of BCMG. It is our intention to provide financial support to an undergraduate or graduate student at a Texas college or university who is pursuing a degree in Horticultural Sciences, Landscape Design, Turfgrass Management, or any affiliated “Green Industry” area.
General administration of the Bexar County Master Gardeners Scholarship is under the direction of the Scholarship Committee of the BCMG, which will evaluate all scholarship applications and made notifications during June of 2021. Contact [email protected] with questions or for more information.
The applicant must be:
- A Texas resident
- Sophomore level (24 credit hours) or above, with at least a 2.8 GPA
- A full-time student (12 hours for undergraduates, 9 hours for graduate students) during the 2021-22 academic year at a Texas institution.
- Majoring in Horticultural Sciences, Landscape Design, Turf Grass Management, or another “green-industry” related area
This is a merit-based scholarship. Financial need will only be considered when qualifications are otherwise nearly equal.
The award will be paid in two installments: $1,000 at the beginning of the fall semester and $1,000 in the spring. The recipient is required to maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.8 and be a full-time student during each semester covered by the award. Proof that the recipient has met these standards will be required before the second semester’s award is disbursed. Bexar County Master Gardeners, Inc. reserves the right to withhold unpaid portions of the scholarship if the recipient fails to meet the requirements above. Award recipients may re-apply for subsequent scholarships.
